PGC Captain’s Update: Course Conduct, Insurance & Section News
Good day to all our Members,
I have been away on leave for a few weeks hence it is time to catch up and follow up on a few issues that have been raised.
GOLF INSURANCE. Following feedback received to the golf shop and a plan proposed by our Panaga Club Manager, Nor Yap, I can advise that the Team in the Shop can support the process of renewing your golf insurance cover. The position of the committee remains the same in that GOLF INSURANCE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED, and I urge you to ensure that you have insurance to cover for accidental injury, damage, and of course, the hole-in-one that we all aspire to get.
ETIQUETTE
Etiquette on the golf course is a core value expected of all members and ought to come alongside common courtesy and common sense. During my leave I was notified of issues on the course regarding players not permitting others to play through, etc.
We will look at posting key rules as a constant reminder. In the meantime, please observe the following:
- Tee Times – Start at the beginning of your allotted time. For example, 07:00 to 07:10 means that you/your group are to be ready to tee off at 07:00 and be underway along the fairway to allow the next group at 07:10 to tee off. If you are late, you lose your tee time and will have to fit in when a gap is available.
-
Pace of Play – It is not unreasonable for a group of 4 players to complete 9 holes within 2 hours and 18 holes within 4 hours.
- If you have players backed up behind you, please allow them to play through if there is room.
- Single players DO NOT HAVE “PLAY THROUGH” RIGHTS and should not hinder other flights.
- Order of Play – Where a group is playing 18 holes, they have right of way at #10/#1 (second 9) over booked tee times when a clash occurs. Where multiple groups are queued up, then groups should merge like a zip – like traffic merging. COMMON SENSE AND COURTESY.
- Golf Carts – Where there are arrows indicating direction of traffic, please follow these simple instructions. For example, when moving from green #7 to tee box at #8, follow the arrows and drive carts around the back of green #2. This will help protect the fairway on #2.
- Number of People in Flight – Following feedback and complaints about multiple 5 or 6 player flights and lack of courtesy demonstrated, flights of 4 players only are permitted.
- Bunkers – We clearly need to get new rakes because the ones we have don’t seem to work... If you play out of a bunker don’t be LAZY – RAKE IT!
- Monthly Medal Registrations – Monthly medal registration will close at 5:00pm on the Friday prior to the monthly medal weekend.

Driving Range Balls
People are stealing driving range balls and using them out on the course. Driving range balls are the property of the PGC and if found on the course should be returned to the golf shop.
Other Club News
It has become apparent from feedback received that both Kaleb Golf Miri and Pantai Mentiri Golf Club do not or may not permit 2-ball flights during weekends. It is not an absolute rule, but please be aware that a 2-ball may not be permitted to play during peak periods. This may also help when seeking reciprocal letters. Should you experience different arrangements, please inform the team in the shop so that the information can be shared with all members.
Course Conditions – Maintaining the course at Panaga has challenges such as irrigation, too little rain, too much rain, chemicals and sand, logs, trees, ants, machinery, and money. It takes nothing short of wizardry to keep it going, and I wish to thank everyone who has thus far supported the efforts made. After not having played for 6 weeks, I find that the course is generally in pretty good shape. THANK YOU.
PGC Committee – This week we recognized the valuable contributions provided by our PGC secretary, Wim Moelker. Wim will be moving on from Brunei to new adventures, and he will be missed. As a result, we are looking for a new PGC secretary to take up the role. If you have an interest in how the PGC is run/managed and have the time to support us, please do get in touch.
