PGC Captain’s Note – Course, Conduct & Future Plans
Good day everyone. I hope that everyone is well and enjoying your golf.
Apologies that I have not provided an update in a while....so here goes....
Course conditions
You will have noticed that since the introduction of a slightly tweaked maintenance contract, the course is looking cleaner through the fairways and rough. This is a great result and recognition to the maintenance team for the hard work. The greens still require a great deal of attention and will remain works in progress.
Golf Buggies
Our golf buggies have proven popular and have, on a few occasions, all been booked out. My recommendation is that if you plan to use a buggy then please try to book early.
There is a need to remind all players that the buggies should not be taken into sodden ground such as the righthand rough amongst the trees on #11 nor between green side bunkers and green such as at #11 green. There will also remain times when buggies may not be permitted on the course due to recent rainfall. Please respect the decision of the golf office staff. Sometimes such a decision has to be made late on. I am sure that all of us can recognize when we have had sufficient rain to halt the use of buggies on the course.
Greens Keeper/Course Super Intendant
Some of you may already have met Oliver, our new Greens Keeper. Oliver has come to us from Malaysia with considerable knowledge and experience and has commenced to work with the teams on the course to build plans for longer term maintenance.
Club Rules and Instructions
Members are reminded that the rules are in place for a reason. A questionnaire has recently been sent to the membership on rule breaking and how it might impact your game. Should such a questionnaire be necessary?
There is a reminder of some key requirements on a board by #1 tee box. If there are questions about these requirements, please approach one of the committee members
As a brief reminder:
- Tee off times - Tee off at the start of your booked time.
- No more than 4-players in a playing group.
- Each player must use their own (borrowed, rented, owned) set of clubs when playing.
- Rake bunkers after use.
- Follow the dress code.
- Return buggies immediately upon completion of your round.
- Take your litter home or place in rubbish bin.
- It is not permitted to smoke/vape on the course.
- Allow players to play through if you are playing at slower pace and if there is room for them to pass.
- Do shout “FORE” if your ball goes astray. (It happens to all of us)
Tee boxes/markers
Black, Blue or Red? Well, it really doesn’t matter except for competitions, when the tee box will be stated. There is nothing to stop men teeing off at the blue or red tees. It is not about male/female/good or bad. As a guide, if you hit a reasonable tee off shot you should be able to reach the green with a 7-iron for your second shot on a par 4. If you are a long way from this when trying from the blacks then try from the blue, if struggling from the blue try from the red. If you are spraying the balls all over then the black tees are not the place you should be starting from. It helps speed up the game too.
2026 Budget
I am pleased to advise that the 2026 budget has been approved and includes funds to support the development of additional buggy tracks, range ball dispenser and golf simulator for those that like to review their data.
